Small
hints:
Covering the skin is sometimes
better then exposing skin, even in Deserts temperatures.
It is nicer to enjoy the trip than to have red burning skin or even blisters
from the sun!
Wearing long trousers in the Desert also protects the legs from sandstorm
that could whip up in seconds.
FISH
RIVER CANYON
The Fish River Canyon in the
second largest canyon in the world, the Grand Canyon being the largest
Stopping over by the canyon early in the morning to see the sunrise is
really an unforgettable experience.
The scenery's you encounter there will not disappoint.
NAMIB
NAUKLOOF NATIONAL PARK
This desert reserve is the
largest reserve in Namibia a massive 23 830 square km/9200 square miles
This is also the oldest desert in the world and is said to be 150 million
years old.
Hosting the oldest living plants, the Welwicia Mirabilis, is said to be
up to 2 000 years old and some even older.
Coming in from the southern side and working our way north we see the
immense size of the reserve.
Take a walk to Ostrich Valley and Death Valley in the Desert.
Master the technique of climbing some of the highest dunes in the desert,
some as high as 450 feet. It really is quite exhilarating when you reach
the top to look out over the endless desert and to realize that although
it all looks so vast and uninhabited there is actually life there.
Animals that could be seen are Gemsbuck, Springbuck, Hartmanns Mountain
Zebra, and on rare occasions Hyena, Leopard, Jackal and Cheetah.
Sleep in Moon Valley's landscape and watch the changing beauty as the
sunrise over the vast Desert.
ETOSHA
NATIONAL PARK
Etosha is the second largest
park in Namibia and is also a staggering 22 100 square km/ 8532 square
miles.
The Big Five are found here and with 3 rest camps to stay at, a considerable
amount of time could be spent here.
Completely different from the Kruger National Park; totally different
animal species are found here too like the Damara dik dik, Gemsbuck, Springbuck
and Black faced Impala.
The bird life is unique and numerous.
Come and see the annual Elephant migration when the Jumbos move to greener
pastures!
Relax next to the waterhole and see the animals coming down to water.
If you are lucky you could see a kill happen first hand.
Lions and leopards start moving closer to the waterholes when the dry
season draws near and so do the animals they live on.
